Chinese human rights activist CHEN GUANGCHENG speeking at the oxford union about his long history of defending the oppressed as the 'barefoot lawyer', he got into trouble pursuing a lawsuit against the Chinese authorities in Linyi in 2005 over alleged human rights abuses. He was placed under house arrest as a consequence.

In April 2012, he escaped. Mr Chen has been blind since an early age, yet managed to make his way to the US Embassy despite falling over 200 times during his escape.
