Puccini’s Turandot124.JPG
final dress rehearsal of Graeme Murphy’s acclaimed production of Turandot,
which opens at the Sydney Opera House on 15 January.
Murphy’s vision of imperial Peking that will take over the Joan Sutherland Theatre stage is a stunning visual
spectacle that includes larger-than-life costumes, bare-chested executioners, exotic dance numbers, and
stunningly choreographed chorus movements.
American powerhouse soprano Amber Wagner stars as the icy princess Turandot, hot off the back of her
acclaimed performances in OA’s digital production of Aida in 2018.
Joining Wagner on stage is rising Spanish tenor Andeka Gorrotxategi who makes his role debut as Prince
Calaf, singing one of the most famous tenor arias of all time – “Nessun dorma” which was popularised by
Luciano Pavarotti at the 1990 Football World Cup. photo by Rhiannon Hopley
